Calligraphy Qalam: An Introduction to Arabic, Persian and Ottoman Calligraphy uses interactive tools to interest new audiences in the traditional art forms of Arabic, Ottoman and Persian calligraphy.

This calligraphic fragment includes two separate horizontal panels cut out and pasted onto a cardboard backing. Judging from the height (10 cm) of each panel containing a single line of text, the original manuscript must have been of a large size (perhaps 50 cm in height at 5 lines of text per page).

Calligrapher: unknown. 15th century. 20.7 x 36.2 cm. Muhaqqaq script. Courtesy of the Library of Congress, African and Middle Eastern Division.
