    HI EVERY ONE,
I am newbie here, this is my first post,I would like to ask,it could be possible to anyone learn Calligraphy without any teacher, because,I live in KARACHI (PAKISTAN).I didn't find any teacher. I want to learn it. I practice individually, but i have no idea, how can i use tools. Some times,Arabic Alphabet can take shapes, but it happened rarely.I practice Thuluth styles.I have also no idea, which one style is suitable for beginners.SO,any one tell me basic techniques of using pens, way to practice.

Additionally,I want to bring in your notice,I use metallic calligraphic pen, but, now i realize, this pen is not suitable for arabic calligraphy, because its nib cut straight horizontally (0 degree).I have been facing a lot of trouble in making lower portion of this arabic alphabet "لا","ر".

    Hi Addi!
Welcome! Khosh amedeed! You are very right, a metal pen will not work, you must use a proper calligraphy pen cut from bamboo or a reed. There is a very good video on this site about materials for Arabic calligraphy.

In terms of learning without a teacher, yes it is possible, but much more difficult. I suggest you contact Mr Khurshid Gauhar Qalam, his website is http://www.wix.com/khurshidgoharqalam/khurshidgohar , you can email him at goharcalligraphest@yahoo.com and you can see his videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/zahirkhurshid1 . He is based in Lahore, but I am sure he knows people in Karachi who can help you. He will at least be able to help you get some pens.

    Good luck!

Yep. Still waiting to hear the issue.
For the record, Salman Rushdie is one of- if not the- greatest living writer alive, I'm sorry if you don't like his work. What works of his have you read?

    Salaam Aliakum
you may check this web http://khattationline.blogspot.com/ He has also given his cell phone number. This guy is based in Karachi.
If u happened to be in Lahore, that I suggest u should come to Haast o Naeest Art Gallery where calligraphy is taught by master calligrapher Irfan Ahmad Qureshi. Haast o Naseest is on Mall Road on Commercial building near Tolligton Market
