    Greetings everybody,
    The following question and inquiry was set in one of the Arabic Calligraphy forums;
    Quote “what’s better to have a special pen (reed) for each writing’ line (with its adequate cut) or should it be more dependable on the calligrapher and his hand’s skills,
    And if the reed’ cutting angel should be differed according to the required writing’ line; is there any diagrams’ showing the cutting angel of each requested writing line” quote end

    Again I’ll appreciate very much your assistance (even through guiding to some other source); in fact there will be many others who will have the same appreciation, hope I didn’t bother and thanking you for your time reading this request.
    Thanks and best regards

    Hello azegypt,
    Thank you for your post. I'm not sure I completely understand the questions being asked. Is the requester asking whether the angle and cut of the pen or the skill of the calligrapher's hand is more important? If so, the answer would be that they are both important and essential ingredients to good calligraphy.

    As for the second question, perhaps the requester is asking for the specific pen angle required by different scripts. This will vary by script (as he or she may know), and I don't know of a centralized place to find that information. I'll post again if I find this information.

    Hello Elisabeth,
    Thank you for your kind response, sorry if my inquiry wasn't clear.
    I agree with you about; hand skil & pen, but let me try to explain his/her inquiry more, would it be neecessary and better to have a pen for "Naskh" and another for "Thuluth" for example, or it's possible to hava just one pen for writing "Naskh" and "Thuluth" in the same time.
    Seems they were also looking for some kind of drawings or videos; showing the requested cut angel of the pen for each writing line.
    I truly thank you for your time and kind assistance.

    Hi Aziz,
    Yes, I believe that you would choose a different pen for Thuluth versus Naskh, because Thuluth is written larger than Naskh, so you would choose a pen with a wider tip. I'm going to ask Aishah Holland (the calligrapher who worked with me on this website) to comment on this question as well.
