I am so glad I have found this site, it really has been beautifully done and has answered so many questions I've had already. I do have one question, do you know of where I'd be able to study calligraphy in Syria? I do know that the University of Damascus has a course, I'd also like to find a teacher (maybe in a more informal setting).

    Hi Ruzana,
Welcome to the site! I'm so glad that you've found it helpful. I also studied calligraphy in Syria, but unfortunately my teacher there recently passed away. I did take a few classes at a cultural center in Salhiyye as well; I'll have to look back at my photos and get the name of that for you. Otherwise, I would guess that the University of Damascus course would be decent, or at least provide you with connections to calligraphers there. You could also try contacting Ahmad Moualla (http://www.kashyahildebrand.org/zurich/moualla/moualla002.html) or Khaled Al-Saai, both of whom are well-established Syrian calligraphers, to ask for names of teachers.
    Good luck!
